Steve Ley graduated from the Canberra School of Music in 1994 and moved to
Sydney where he has played with prominent jazz artists Dale Barlow, Bobby
Gebert, Dave Smith and others. He has also worked with Jeff Duff and Rachel
Gaudry.
Over the years, Steve has played at the Basement, Side On Café, Soup Plus
and other Sydney jazz venues in addition to playing at the Manly
International Jazz Festival, Wangeratta International Jazz Festival and
Darling Harbour Jazz Festival.
He spent some time in New York several years ago where he went to clinics
and hung out with drummers such as Jack DeJohnette, Elvin Jones and Jeff
"Tain" Watts. He also played at New York venues The Blue Note, The Knitting
Factory, and Smalls.
Steve is a respected drum teacher based in Sydney, being on the staff at
Dicksons Music and other respected music schools in Sydney.
